Known as Health Occupations Students of America, HOSA is a student organization promoting medical careers and community involvement. President of the club, Neel Iyer, joined so he can explore what his passion. Vice President, Neena Madhure, wanted to have the potential to help people and raise awareness about the medical field. Both say the club’s shining moment was at the annual blood drive held last year; numerous volunteers came and it made the club proud to see people lining up to donate. HOSA wishes to have the same turnout again this year. Their drive this year will be held on Friday September 13, 2019 from 4:15 p.m. to 8:00p.m., so make sure to stop by and show your support. It is by appointment and you can receive first priority when signing up online. Flyers are hung around the school for more information. In addition to celebrating past achievements, HOSA has many goals set forth for the upcoming year. Community involvement and awareness mean a lot to the club members. Fundraisers and festivals are organized throughout the year to promote the club, such as the Medical Career Fair. It is open to the public and not focused it solely on doctors, but also incorporating other medical-related topics to appeal to a larger demographic. Community Participation focuses on many aspects for HOSA such as awareness of the club and the variety in the medical field, bigger fundraisers and events, and having a higher chance of winning during competitions this spring. Health Occupations Students of America provides a place where students who want to pursue a career in medicine can learn about their potential profession.
